Well, Jayden is one tough little cookie. Dad & Ben gave him a great blessing which he actually sat still for, then we went shopping for tonsillectomy goodies! We kept him up per the nurse’s instructions. We had a PJ Party and had a picnic style dinner in the food forbidden family room which Jay thought was great. We made cookies, ate junk food and watched movies while playing Legos. Sven made it to 9:30! HA! After the late bath I got Jay into bed at midnight, there was no way I was keeping him up till 2! I had no brain left at 12 let alone 2. The next morning he still didn't really sleep in and was up at 7:30 instead of 6:30 so it was a bit of a challenge for me to keep him away from the kitchen. We played a Sponge Bob game till it was time to go and took a video of him saying goodbye to his tonsils. At the surgical center things went pretty quickly, he had an awesome admit male nurse who kept him laughing and smiling while we waited to go in. He explained/demonstrated the flavored "air" and fell asleep on Jayden and snored loudly. Jay thought he was hilarious and he even made mom & dad relax a bit too. The anesthesia doctor came in and we got to walk down the hall with him but we weren't allowed to go back were he would go to sleep, which was very upsetting to me. We kissed Jay and said see you in a minute and Jay teared up as they wheeled him away which broke my heart. Time passed very slowly for Sven & I in the waiting room. We could not comprehend the lives of parents who spend lots of time in waiting rooms for their sick children. We are so lucky & grateful that our kids have always been healthy. Dr. Meads came in as soon as it was done and said that Jay did great. He had huge Adenoids that had left next to no room in his passages. His Tonsils were also huge with large pockets of crud & debris which he said was definitely the cause of the recurring infections. As soon as he left our waiting room we could hear Jayden screaming in another room. A nurse came and got us and took us to him. He was coughing, burping and screaming while 2 nurses held him. It took quite a while to settle him down and become coherent . It was horrible to see him like that. I actually got really nauseated and about passed out. It was 1 o clock and I hadn’t eaten anything for one, but I have always been on the other side of that situation. They gave him some Lortab and discharged him. We stopped at the pharmacy on the way home to get his meds and by the time I got out to the car Jay was a new man, a very hyper man. The pain meds made him bounce off the wall, he could not hold still and kept yelling and singing. He was very sweet and funny, he said Sven was the waiter & I was the cook of the restaurant and he would let us know when he needed something and maybe later we could ride a fire engine….yah. We cut back on the pain killer a bit so he could be more aware of being gentle with his throat and that he needed to rest on the couch and not jump off it. ;) He has been so brave and good, he hasn’t been phased by this whole ordeal, he hasn’t even wanted all the popsicles and goodies we bought. Just water & apple juice in his special cup, which is fine by me. We are all glad that it is over and that everything went so well.
